Character: Felix "Stern" Quy
Note: Set in pre-canon RP.
He was five years old when the man who took him in gave him his name.
"Felix," the old man, Sinh, declared, his wrinkled face only half visible in the firelight in the middle of their camp. His brown eyes reflected the starlight as his lips curled up into a smile. He looked so much like a benevolent grandfather in that moment, staring down at his grandson with pride.
Except they both lost their families before either of them were ready to. And the old man's smile was traced with dark humor and his eyes were calculating possibilities.
"Lucky," he'd said it meant. And that was what Felix was--favored by luck--for if the makeshift family had not gotten the mission to eliminate his parents, he probably would have died, either by his father's hand, starvation or a combination of both. As it was, he was only alive by the grace of mercenaries and their unconventional medical skills.
(By 'their grace' meant they saw potential in him and the way they found him in hiscell room with a sharp shard of glass and promptly attempted to stab them with minimal success.)
Years later, after he'd stained his hands with the blood of his adopted family, he stood impassive over the dying Sinh who was both responsible for his upbringing and the order for the downfall of the family.
"Success," was the other meaning of his name, the old man told him with red liquid spilling from his lips. Because he surpassed all of them, killed them with everything they taught him with barely any remorse.
Quy was their family's name. It meant 'precious' and he kept it for the rest of his life because it was exactly that.
He was twelve years old when the man who took him in made him feel hate for the very name he'd been given.
